Mosaiculture – Photography in Large Public Venues

Many of us visit and take images in large, public venues such as gardens and exhibitions which can be challenging from a photographic perspective. I thought it may be interesting to share some images I took at the Mosaiculture exhibit in Montreal in 2013 and some of the approaches I used at the event. Focus Stacking Example

For most people who just want to have some fun with their photography and have another ‘trick up their sleeve’ focus stacking can be an interesting technique to explore. To put this article in proper context, I’ve never used focus stacking for any of my client work, and I don’t profess to be an expert at the technique…but I have experimented with it. The following image is a quick focus stacking example I put together for this article. It was composed from 11 separate exposures. It’s far from perfect, but it does represent a typical result that most hobbyists can easily achieve. Continue reading Focus Stacking Example

Dahle 554 Rotary Cutter Review

In the past we have been using a self-sealing cutting mat, Olfa knife, and a steel edge safety ruler to do all of our custom trimming of posters and prints. Fortunately the vast majority of our work has not required any custom trimming since we design all of our standard posters around 17” (43.18 cm) roll paper, and posters come off our printer trimmed to size and ready to ship. Genaray Spectroled 1000 Daylight LED Three Light Kit Review

The majority of my videography and photography work is with industrial clients, and I almost always find myself shooting onsite in warehouses, factories, and other indoor venues. Genaray LED-7100T On-Camera Light Review

Like many photographers and videographers, I’ve found that there have been times when I really could have used a small, highly portable, adjustable light source. This most often occurred when I shooting close-up still images or video clips of industrial machinery where I couldn’t get my regular studio lighting to fit into cramped quarters. I began looking for a solution and came upon the Genaray LED-7100T On-Camera Light. Continue reading Genaray LED-7100T On-Camera Light Review

For many photographers there comes a time when investments in equipment (other than buying cameras, lenses, and lighting) becomes necessary for the growth and profitability of their business. Depending on the nature and volume of their work purchasing equipment such as large format printers, laminators and trimmers can make economic sense. Oben TT-300 Table Top Tripod Review

There are times when virtually every photographer or videographer could make use of a small, lightweight, easy-to-use table top tripod. Like that time you were on holidays and missed that spectacular sunset in fading light. Or, that unique angle shot that would have added a lot of production value to a client video, but your regular gear was too big and bulky to get into the tight spot needed to capture it.

Pearstone PSL-3 Step Heavy Duty Photographer’s Ladder Review

As my photography and video business has grown, so too has the amount of gear that I bring to client shoots. This is especially true when doing video work. Since I am a ‘solo-shooter’ and never work with a crew, I was finding it more and more cumbersome to load, unload and transfer my gear. I began looking for a cost-effective, flexible solution. When I discovered the Pearstone PSL-3 Step Photographer’s Ladder with Wheels I knew it was the ideal tool for the job. Continue reading Pearstone PSL-3 Step Heavy Duty Photographer’s Ladder Review
