Reader Event at Bird Kingdom Saturday February 11

Any and all readers who are interested in doing some bird photography are invited to a Bird Kingdom Reader Event this Saturday, February 11th. The facility is located in Niagara Falls, Canada and opens at 9:30AM.  I’ll be there before opening so attendees will have some ‘meet and greet’ time.

There are a number of display areas with two of them featuring free-flying birds. Other displays include perched birds, reptiles and some night creatures including Egyptian Fruit Bats.

While longer focal length super-zooms (e.g. 150-600mm) and prime telephoto lenses could be put to good use in the Main Aviary, these large lenses may be a bit of overkill for the rest of the facility. Primes up to about 300mm or zooms such as 70-200mm or 70-300mm would likely work very well in the smaller rooms. Some of the display areas are fairly tight so lenses with longer minimum focusing distances will be a bit tricky to use.

Bringing extension tubes or macro lenses may be helpful if you plan on doing some close up photography. I hope to see as many of you as possible on Saturday February 11th!

    1. I hope so too Joni! We had a nice group out back in November 2015 and I’m hoping we can get a lot of folks out to meet each other and have some fun capturing images at Bird Kingdom.

        1. Hi Gavin,

This is an informal opportunity for readers to meet and get together. There is no formal presentation planned. I’ll be there to chat one-on-one with readers, capture a few of my own images, and answer any questions of which I’m able.

          1. Thanks for all your help yesterday, I learnt a great deal spending the morning with you yesterday at the Bird Kingdom. I’ll send you some shots from Costa Rica next month. Again many thanks
