Thank You for our Third Year Together!

There’s an old saying that “time flies when you’re having fun”. That must be true, as I can hardly believe that it has been three years since I started this photography blog. To each and every reader I would like to extend a sincere thank you for our third year together and for all of your support!

It was a busy year in 2017 with 138 new postings on this little photography blog.

I had a quick look at my web stats before writing this article, noticing that the number of total visits in 2017 was up over 50% from last year.

Of special note was that about 10% of those individual visits were at least 15 minutes in duration with a good number of them being over an hour in duration.

We deeply appreciate all of the support that you have given this blog with your donations and purchases of our recently published eBooks. I hope I don’t miss mentioning any countries, if I do I apologize! Support has come from folks in Canada, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Nepal, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Israel, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Mexico, and the Netherlands. To each and every one of you, our heartfelt thanks.

It was an interesting third year, but what’s in the plan for next year?

In the first part of the year you will see at least three new eBooks published and available here. These will include two travel photography eBooks, with one on New Zealand. The second one will feature images from four states: Utah, South Dakota, Colorado and Wyoming. Both of these eBooks have been under development for some time and finishing both of them will be priorities in the first half of next year.

The third eBook is almost ready. It doesn’t have anything to do with photography, as it a business-oriented book called Balancing Eggs. Its a business parable, similar in style to Miller’s Bolt, another business book I wrote that was published 20 years ago. It focuses on leadership communication and performance coaching techniques.

We have a number of other photography-related eBooks that are in various stages of development. At this point it is difficult to know which ones may be published in 2018 as none of them is too far advanced.

I do have content outlines done for eBooks addressing various subject matter including: flower & garden photography, bird photography, landscape photography, and also a book on composition tips. It would be great if readers gave us some idea on which topics may be of interest to them as that will help us determine our priorities with these planned eBooks.

My wife and I have two photography tours planned for 2018, and if we succeed in capturing a sufficient number of usable images, those tours will result in additional travel photography eBooks. These eBook opportunities will likely be 2019 projects.

I’m planning to still make some regular contributions to Photography Life, as well as write some Guest Posts for Mirrorlessons.com.¬†As always, I love to hear from readers, and I’ll continue to respond to as many of your comments as possible.

    1. Hi William,
I have enjoyed our many interactions here, as well as by email, over the past number of years…and look forward to many more! Best of the New Year to you and those you love!

  1. Dear Thomas, I’m always interested in your technical insights.

    1. Do you see any Nikon developments in the Nikon 1 arena?

    2. Have you followed any Nikon research and development that might lead to a full frame mirrorless camera a la Sony?

    3. Have you been interested in the the Light L16 release this year?

    All the best David

    1. Hi David,
Thanks for your comment and related questions…replies below:
      1) The Nikon 1 system seems to be in a holding pattern. In many markets it is likely a niche product with a small, but loyal following. Over the past year, I have bolstered my Nikon 1 kit to the point that I should be able to continue shooting with it for the 5 years or so. After that, if the system is still around I will likely update my Nikon 1 gear. If no longer available at that time I will have to reassess my equipment needs at that time.
      2) I have not followed specific research and development. If I was a betting man, I would put money on a Nikon full frame mirrorless camera being introduced.
      3) I have no interest in the Light L16 at all. My video and still photography needs are being met very well with my Nikon 1 kit and I plan to shoot with it for as long as it remains serviceable.
      Tom
